by University of Liverpool Library on 2020-11-09T14:40:00+00:00 | 0 Comments

With the beginning of a second national lockdown, we thought it would be a great idea to highlight some of the great resources and tools that you can access through the Library that you may never have heard of!

While most of you will be familiar with Library tools such as Discover, Reading Lists and the Library Catalogue and will use them regularly for your research and teaching, you may not have heard of some of these resources that can be used for both academic purposes and in your leisure time. You can thank us later!

Leisure/Wellbeing

  1. Kanopy – Access films ranging from award-winning documentaries and indie and foreign films to classics and theatrical releases. Just sign up with your University login and start watching!
  2. Box of Broadcasts – Access this on demand TV and radio service to record and watch programmes and search the archive of broadcasts.
  3. Library Wellbeing and Community resources – This resource hub, compiled by Library staff, brings together a collection of reading lists for wellbeing and mental health, leisure reading recommendations, Spotify music playlists and more.
  4. Ancestry Library – If you need something to keep you entertained during the second lockdown, why not do some research into your family history? Ancestry Library includes census records; military records; court, land, and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists and more in databases that span from the 1500s to the 2000s.
  5. Drama Online – If you’re a fan of Shakespeare, check out Drama Online for access to video productions of Shakespeare plays as well as lots more theatrical content.
  6. Rock’s Backpages - Access audio interviews and over 40,000 classic articles on the finest music writers of the last 60 years, from Aaliyah to ZZ Top.
  7. Local Liverpool Reading List - If you have visited the Libraries, you may have seen the book displays of resources to help you familiarise yourself with the city and its culture. If you can’t get into the Library don’t worry, we have created an online reading list to help get to know the city a bit better.

Educational/Academic

  1. Anti-Racist Reading list - As part of the University’s Good Global Citizen module during Foundation Week, we created an Anti-Racist Reading List that we encouraged you to contribute to! Most books are available in electronic format so that they can be accessed anywhere, not just in the Library!
  2. Get It For Me – If you’re looking for a book, article or other resource and can’t find it in the Library collections, you can request a copy using our Get It For Me service. Just complete the request form to let us know what you need, and we will aim to supply a digital version if possible, for you to use remotely.
  3. Writing@Liverpool & Stats@Liverpool – If you need support with your writing or using statistics, the KnowHow team in the Library lead two initiatives delivered by postgraduate students to help you develop your skills and boost your confidence. Book a one-to-one appointment for support with topics ranging from planning and structuring your writing to understanding statistical concepts.

Visit the Library website to find out more about what we have to offer.
