Ronald Fraser Oral History Tapes

88 taped interviews and transcripts collected by Ronald Fraser for his books In Hiding: the life of Manuel Cortes (1972) and The Pueblo: a mountain village on the Costa del Sol (1973).

1970s photograph of the Sydney Jones LibraryRonald Fraser (b.1930), a leading historian of 20th-century Spain, has used oral history techniques to document the experience of the Spanish Civil War and later changes in Spanish society.

In Hiding is based on interviews with the last socialist mayor of Mijas, who survived thirty years in hiding from the Franco regime, and with his wife and daughter.

The Pueblo describes the changes that have affected Mijas during the tourist development of the Costa del Sol, based on interviews with villagers. These research materials were deposited by QUALIDATA (now the UK Data Service) in 1998.
