Library improvements works continue - everything you need to know

by Gemma Jaleel on 2025-09-26T15:29:00+01:00 | 0 Comments

Improvement works at the Sydney Jones Library (SJL) and Harold Cohen Library (HCL) will continue next week.

The final phase of the SJL toilet refurbishment project kicks off on Monday 29 September, focusing on areas that weren’t upgraded during earlier phases.

The Abercromby Wing staff toilets on the first and second floor will be closed but will not impact students, although there may be some noise disruption. The Grove Wing basement toilets will be unavailable from 2 October to all users.

However, there are brand-new toilet facilities available in both wings of the SJL building, so students are encouraged to use those during the refurbishment period.

The work is scheduled to finish by Friday 24 November, although timelines may shift.

Also starting Monday 29 September, the HCL building will undergo ventilation improvements. Most of the work will be confined to plant rooms in the Lower Ground, with no impact on study spaces.

However, from Monday to Friday (29 Sept to 3 Oct), the Lower Ground Floor male toilets (used by both staff and students) will be closed while contractors carry out work in the area.

Alternative toilets are available at the Lower Ground Rear (past the Group Study area), first floor and fourth floor. Clear signage will be in place to help you find the nearest facilities.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these improvements take place. If you have any questions or need assistance locating facilities, please speak to a member of staff.
