Sydney Jones to close overnight as improvement work on toilet facilities continues

by Gemma Jaleel on 2024-08-05T09:55:00+01:00 | 0 Comments

The Sydney Jones Library (SJL) will be closed overnight from September up to the May 2025 assessment period due to extensive improvement works occurring across the building.

A complete renovation of the SJL toilets is well underway to improve and expand our toilet facilities for all our users.

The overnight closure of the building is necessary to enable this work to be undertaken safely and smoothly, and to minimise disruption to our users using the library during the day.

However, 24/7 study spaces will still be available on campus to all users throughout the 2024-25 academic year over at the Harold Cohen Library (HCL) which will be open as usual.

The library team will also work with the University’s Muslim Adviser to minimise disruption to users of the SJL prayer room.

The SJL will be closed between 10pm and 8am from 16 September until May 2025 with 24/7 services resuming throughout May 2025 for the summer revision period.

Dr Matt Greenhall, Director of Libraries, Museums & Galleries, said:

We are committed to improving our library buildings and providing the best study environment possible for our users. The ongoing renovation works across the Sydney Jones Library represent a significant investment in our building and these will necessitate the overnight closure of the Sydney Jones Library for most of the 2024-25 academic year. We apologise for any inconvenience that this causes to our users, and colleagues are working hard to mitigate this. We thank all our users for their patience and support as we improve our buildings. The Harold Cohen Library will remain 24/7 throughout term-time and both assessment periods, and we encourage our users to make use of its space and facilities during this time.
