What better way to find out advice about using the Library than from the Library users themselves? We thought it would be a great idea to ask you what your top tips are for using the Library and you didn’t disappoint. We hope that these tips are useful and help you to make the most out of your Library experience!

Tips from students:

  • Use the student-led Writing@Liverpool service. According to one student ‘it saved their life’… which we take to mean that they found it pretty useful!
  • Go more than twice in first year (this is good advice!). Although you may not be able to visit the Library in person, you can still use lots of our resources and support services online so we suggest you check them out… more than twice!
  • Be an early bird and arrive (or book your space) early before all the spaces are gone!
  • Look through your module reading lists and find out which resources are available online and make a note of them.
  • During the revision periods in the lead up to exams, take time away from your study space to take in the breath-taking university if you’re on or near campus.
  • E-journals are your best friend when you can’t find anything on a specific subject – don’t take them for granted!
  • If you can’t find what you need, request a copy via the Library’s Get It For Me service, it’s a great resource and the Library staff are really helpful and will acquire the resources you need quickly.
  • If you visit the Library, bring all the snacks to keep you going! (Snacks are still a good idea if you’re studying at home!)
  • Find the zone in the Library that works for you and how you work best… silent, quiet or social.

Tips from lecturers and seminar tutors:

  • Use KnowHow to help with essay writing skills and referencing – it will improve the quality of your work and make you better equipped to structure your essay, convey your thoughts and clearly present your work in a professional style.
  • If you need support with finding materials for the module or to support your essays or assignments, get in touch with your Liaison Librarian who will offer you expert advice and make sure you find what you need.
